PhD Candidate - Reading for Students with Extensive Support Needs

My name is Alice Williams, I am a PhD candidate, OSEP RAISE scholar and ISET fellow at Florida State University in Special Education. I expect to graduate in the Spring of 2024. I am currently on the job market for Fall of 2024.
My research focuses on teaching reading to students with extensive support needs. I am working to utilize evidence based practices to teach basic reading skills such as phonological awareness and phonics to students with Autism Spectrum Disorder, Intellectual Disabilities and multiple disabilities. I am interested in how to best support students who are nonverbal or have limited verbal abilities foundational reading skills. My dissertation (beginning Fall 2023) will study the effects of reading program on teaching letter sound correspondence, sound blending, and decoding to elementary students with extensive support needs.
